ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
Championship
A tussle of the goal circles has been called for the Boroondara Express and Western Warriors Championship match, with the competition’s two Hot Shot leaders at either end of the court. For the Warriors, it’s Kim Borger who has been dominating alongside Julia Woolley in the club’s inaugural season, while Boroondara’s Bella Hodgson and teammate Ruby Barkmeyer have cemented their side’s spot at the top of the ladder. Settle in for a shooting masterclass – it’s sure to be raining goals at Parkville on Wednesday.
23&Under
A home court advantage may be the boost City West Falcons need when they host Geelong Cougars in Altona – the club’s first home games of the season. Currently third and fourth on the ladder respectively, both teams are sitting on four wins so the hunt for majority points is on. The Falcons will be missing goaler Amalani Fauonuku, while the Cougars will need to fill the void of defenders Mia Aitken and Charli Hoey with the three players representing Victoria at the National Netball Championships in Frankston this week.
ONE TO WATCH
The Geelong Cougars will rely on the reach and suffocating pressure of defender Brooke Allan as they come up against City West Falcons this week. Allan offers impressive reach and agility; tracking her player and the ball all over the court, her ability to read the play is one of her strongest assets. Allan’s task at hand is 201cm tall Jane Cook or fellow Melbourne Mavericks’ squad member Uneeq Palavi – both are goalers she has plenty of time playing against and present a challenge she's no doubt up for.
