With two convincing wins of 26 and 27 goals, Fury go into the final two rounds of the Deakin University Australian Netball League five wins clear of the bottom four; a promising sign that they’ll find themselves at the State Netball and Hockey Centre come finals weekend.
Fury goaler Ruby Barkmeyer was impressed with the team’s effort and ability to take the opportunity to strengthen things they’ve worked on.
“We started off slow in the first game, with Storm getting ahead early but in the second half we settled into the game and got our game structure right,” said Barkmeyer.
“From this, a focus for the second game was that really strong start and we were able to do that, having a five-goal lead in the first few minutes.
“It was bigger than just a win for us as we set KPIs for goals scored each quarter and we were able to reach those targets which is a great reflection on everyone’s commitment to the team.
“We did take our foot off the pedal a few times throughout the games with a few dips in each quarter, so we’ll have to work on that this week leading up to the games against Tasmania.”
The Fury will host the Tasmanian Magpies this weekend at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Sunday, 9 June and Melbourne Arena straight after the Melbourne Vixens v Collingwood Magpies game on Monday, 10 June.
