The Victorian Fury will travel to Brisbane this weekend to take on third-placed Queensland Fusion in Round 5 of the Australian Netball League.
The Fury are coming off seven consecutive wins, after defeating the Western Sting in both games last week, while the Fusion had mixed results on the weekend, winning the first game but being defeated in the second by the Netball NSW Waratahs.
Fury Head Coach, Leesa Gallard, said that the Sting challenged the team, particularly in the first game of the round.
“It was pleasing that we were put under that extreme pressure but were still able to find the goals,” Gallard said.
Turning their sights to the race for finals, Gallard said they are aware of the tough games approaching, including this weekend’s against the Fusion.
“We are very aware that we have a lot of tough encounters coming up,” Gallard said.
“We’re ready and excited for the challenge of taking on these teams.”
When they last played in Round 6 2016, the Fury won both games, 46 – 42 and 55 – 44.
Gallard said consistency is the key to defeating the Fusion.
“We have been focussing on putting out consistent play across both defence and attack, and across the 15 minutes of each quarter.”
“It’s really important that we stick to our processes and that we play every minute in each quarter strongly.”
With the season at the halfway mark, the Fury are sitting a game clear on top of the ladder, with the GIANTS and Fusion hot on their tail with six wins.
The Fusion will host the Fury in Brisbane on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 March at Logan Metro Sports Centre.
