In her debut year, Jasmin’s strength and accuracy in the ring has been an integral part of the Waves’ success that drove them to play in the 2019 Grand Final.
Shooting with conviction, Jasmin took out the 19/U goaling competition, shooting a whopping 582 goals and achieved a goal accuracy of 91%.
For this reason, she can now call herself the 2019 19/U Hot Shot awardee.
“It was a shock to say the least but it makes this year even better than it already has been,” Jasmin explained after receiving the award.
“I mean yeah it’s a fair few goals, but it’s really a reflection of our whole team and their consistency as a team to get the ball into our goals.”
Not only did Jasmin take out the Hot Shot Award, but she was also chosen as one of the top players in her division as a member of the 19/U Team of the Year.
Jasmin said her choice to step up to the VNL ranks has been one of the best decisions she has made as a netballer.
“It’s been surreal! I’ve always played relatively high netball and through representative teams and footy clubs.
“But this year it was a different game played on the same court if you get what I mean, like so different but so similar,
“The goalers I worked with are amazing and fed the ball so well, week in and week out.”
Based near the Gippsland area, Jasmin’s dedication to play in the VNL was demonstrated every Wednesday night by the four hour round trip it took her and her family to make it to the State Netball and Hockey Centre, even for 9.40pm games.
Her mobility as a goaler hints that her VNL career is only just beginning.
Each week, no matter the contest, Jasmin’s work in the goal circle was strategic and passionate. She was able to make her defenders aware that she was a force to be reckoned with and has too much knowledge in the goals to be beat.
Having had her first taste of the VNL grand final stage in 2019, Jasmin said there is no doubt you will see her back in the goals next year shooting up a storm.
“Going back to that grand final, I think we could have taken it out considering we beat Falcons in the first week, but no matter the result I am still so proud and thankful to have been a part of the journey of Peninsula this year.
“I have a trust with Waves now that I never knew was possible.
“I definitely want to be back at Waves next year and hopefully taking it one step further than we did this year!”
